Forms Satisfactory completion of Innovative Training Posts Peterborough & Stamford NHS Trust
|
IntroductionThe Peterborough Scheme started in 1973 and took its first Trainees in 1974. It is one of the oldest schemes in the country. It is based at Peterborough District Hospital with General Practice involvement from a number of practices both within Peterborough and the surrounding area. The main hospital was completed in 1969 and a maternity unit opened in 1971. A second hospital, the Edith Cavell Hospital, was opened in 1988 and together with the District Hospital forms part of the Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The John Fawcett Postgraduate Medical Centre was opened in 1973 and has since been extended and now includes a clinical skills laboratory. The VTS Office is based in the Postgraduate Medical Centre. There is also a Library in the Centre together with meeting rooms and dining facilities. Following a successful bid, a new single site hospital is currently under construction on the Edith Cavell Site with a proposed opening date of late 2010. Following the introduction of Modernising Medical Careers, the outline of the Scheme has been revised and there is now a single intake of 9 Trainees once a year in August (see Course Structure).
Accommodation Accommodation near the hospital may be available throughout the hospital appointments. If you need to claim relocation or travelling expenses, it would be a good idea to speak to the BMA who will be able to offer advice on this. Alternatively for those starting in hospital posts you will need to contact the Medical Staffing Department. For those starting in General Practice your Practice Manager should be able to advise. There are a number of Estate Agents & Letting Agents in the City. © Peterborough GP Vocational Training Scheme. All rights reserved. |
